• Republican gubernatorial nominee Darren Bailey wants to scrap the state’s decades-old gun-permitting system.
• The head of the Illinois State Police said there wasn’t enough evidence to stop the alleged Highland Park shooter from getting a Firearm Owners ID Card, or a FOID card.
• The longest-serving justice on the Illinois Supreme Court will retire on Thursday.
