Champaign County July 4th Fireworks Celebration Canceled

URBANA – Champaign-Urbana’s annual Fourth of July festival will not be held this year. The organizers of the Champaign County Freedom Celebration posted the announcement on their website Tuesday.

The Freedom Celebration events, including a parade and fireworks, take place on the University of Illinois campus.

But the U of I has announced the cancellation of all summer events until further notice, due to the coronavirus outbreak. Organizers of the Freedom Celebration that led to the decision by their board to suspend activities this year.

The Champaign County Freedom Celebration was first held in 1949, and also includes a 5-K race and live music. Organizers say they look forward to resuming activities on July Fourth, 2021.
