Lawmakers release revised congressional redistricting map

Illinois Democratic leaders released this new proposed congressional district map on October 23, 2021.

SPRINGFIELD – Democratic leaders in the Illinois General Assembly released a new proposed congressional redistricting map on Saturday. Leaders claim it better reflects representation of Latino voters in Illinois.

According to USA Today, U.S. Census data released in 2021 showed that the number of Hispanics in Illinois rose by 309,832 people, or 15.3% between 2010 and 2020.

Last Wednesday, members of the public spoke directly to state lawmakers about a proposed map released on October 15. According to Capitol News Illinois, most of those who did were critical of the plan.

Redistricting hearings will resume next week.
