No. 17 Illinois beats Cornhuskers 26-9 for 6th straight win.

Illinois quarterback Tommy DeVito (3) passes the ball against Nebraska during the second half of Saturday's football game in Lincoln, Neb.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Running back Chase Brown rushed for 149 yards and scored on consecutive series in the second quarter, helping No. 17 Illinois to a 26-9 victory over Nebraska.

The game marked Brown’s ninth-straight 100-yard rushing game.

Illinois quarterback Tommy DeVito was 20 of 22 for 179 yards and two touchdowns.

Wide receiver Isaiah Williams made nine catches for the Illini, for 93 yards and a score.

The Illini beat the Cornhuskers for the third year in a row. They won a sixth straight game for the first time since 2011 and secured their first winning regular-season record since 2007.

Illinois leads the Big Ten West, with a record of 4-1 in the conference and 7-1 overall. Nebraska (2-3 in the Big Ten, 3-5 overall) is ranked 6th in the Big Ten West.

Nebraska got on the board with a 26-yard field goal from placekicker Timmy Bleekrode, with 1:49 left in the first quarter. The Cornhuskers briefly led the game in the second quarter, when quarterback Casey Thompson ran a 56-yard touchdown strike. The ball then passed to tight end Travis Vokolek, who ran it into the end zone to put Nebraska ahead 9-6. But Nebraska lost Thompson for the remainder of the game later in the second quarter, due to an apparent hand injury.

Nebraska committed four turnovers and lost its 20th straight game against a Top 25 opponent.

Illinois returns to Memorial Stadium in Champaign next Saturday, to open a two-game homestand against Michigan State.
