SPRINGFIELD – On January 9, 2023, Governor JB Pritzker, Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton, Attorney General Kwame Raoul, Comptroller Susan Mendoza, and Treasurer Michael Frerichs is scheduled to be sworn-in for their second terms. Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias is scheduled to be sworn-in for his first term in this position. All were elected or re-elected on November 8, 2022. The inaugural ceremony took place at the Bank of Springfield Center.

The site of a school district building could become downtown Urbana’s next commercial development. For years, the one-story building at 205-211 North Race Street was home to District 116’s administrative headquarters and adult education center. With those offices moving elsewhere, the district wants to sell the property to the city, which would then tear it down and seek a commercial developer for the site.

More hospitals are turning to a drug called TNKase — a brand name for tenecteplase — to break up the blood clots that threaten stroke victims. It’s a less expensive and much faster acting drug than previous treatments. But patients get the benefit only if they seek treatment quickly, within the first hours after a stroke occurs.
Nearly a year after a groundbreaking ceremony, a new casino opened to the public for the first time on Saturday in Danville’s Eastgate area. Initially, the casino will be open eight hours a day, closed on Tuesdays.
