URBANA – The National Weather Service in Central Illinois has issued a Wind Chill Advisory for Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. The wind chill is the temperature it “feels like” outside when combined with wind.

Wind chills in Champaign-Urbana are forecasted to be around 15 degrees below zero before sunrise Wednesday morning.

Danville Public Schools 118 announced that it will be closed due to the dangerous wind chills and a lack of school bus drivers.

“This is a dangerous combination for our students waiting outside at the bus stop and for those walking to school. With this information, it is necessary to have a weather-related school closing,” the district said in a release on Tuesday afternoon.

The advisory is in effect from Tuesday at 8:00 p.m.-Wednesday 9:00 a.m. for Champaign, Fulton, Knox, Marshall, McLean, Peoria, Stark, Vermilion, and Woodford Counties.

Meteorologists are warning frostbite on exposed skin can occur in as little as 30 minutes in these conditions. They advised people to limit exposure outdoors and dress appropriately for the cold.
