ISU administrator dies following on-campus crash with bicyclist

ISU Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs Adam E. Peck

An Illinois State University administrator has died four days after he collided with a bicycle on the Illinois State University campus.

According to a joint news release from McLean County Coroner Kathy Yoder and ISU Police Chief Aaron Woodruff, 49-year-old Adam Peck died on Friday morning. Peck was a pedestrian who was involved in a crash with a bicyclist in a sidewalk area near South University Street in Normal, according to police.

The crash happened at about 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Peck was taken to Carle BroMenn Medical Center following the crash. He was pronounced dead at 11:06 a.m. Friday.

Peck worked at ISU as an assistant vice president for student affairs. ISU President Terri Goss Kinzy issued a statement to the university community.

“My thoughts, along with those of the entire Illinois State community, are with Adam’s family, colleagues, and friends during this incredibly difficult time. I encourage anyone who is impacted by this loss to reach out for support,” Kinzy said.

The university said students in need of support can contact Student Counseling Services at (309) 438-3655.

“Adam was a wonderful person, friend, and colleague to all of us,” said Vice President for Student Affairs Levester Johnson. “Our hearts are broken, but we face this together as a Redbird community.”

Police and the coroner say the crash remains under investigation.

His family said Peck was able to share the gift of organ donation.

The crash was the third serious crash involving a pedestrian in Bloomington-Normal this month. Two ISU students were critically injured in a crash outside Pub II in Normal on Sept. 15. Yesenia Navarrete, 29, of Bloomington, died following a Sept. 24 crash in downtown Bloomington.
